2026 Washoe Picnic FAQ
When and where is the picnic?
The picnic is scheduled for August 8th, 2026, from 08:00 AM to 06:00 PM[cite: 1]. It will be held at Grovers Hot Springs, located at 3415 Hot Springs Road, Markleeville, CA[cite: 1].
What kind of food should I bring?
Drinks, meat, bread, and desserts will be provided for everyone[cite: 1]. However, attendees are asked to bring dishes to share based on their community[cite: 1]:
- Carson Colony: Potato salad[cite: 1]
- Stewart: Macaroni Salads[cite: 1]
- Dresslerville: Main Dishes[cite: 1]
- Woodfords: Beans[cite: 1]
- Off-Rez: Any dish to share[cite: 1]
Is camping available for the event?
Yes, camping will be available on Friday and Saturday night[cite: 1]. Campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis[cite: 1].
There are 25 additional sites available, 8 campsites at the main campground, and unlimited open camping around the day use area[cite: 1]. Please note that 3 specific campsites are reserved exclusively for Elders[cite: 1].
Are there size restrictions for RVs and trailers?
Yes. The maximum length for motorhomes, vans, and campers is 27 feet[cite: 1]. For trailers, the maximum length is 24 feet, which is measured from the rear bumper of the towing truck to the rear bumper of the trailer[cite: 1].
Can I bring my dog to the campground?
Yes, dogs are allowed, but they must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times[cite: 1]. They cannot be left unattended at any time, and owners are required to clean up after their pets[cite: 1].
What are the park rules regarding bears and food storage?
Bears commonly explore the campground looking for food, so all scented items must be safely stored DAY AND NIGHT[cite: 1].
All food, beverages (including unopened cans and bottles), ice chests, and toiletries must be stored in the provided metal bear-resistant lockers unless they are actively being consumed or prepared[cite: 1].
How can I volunteer to help?
The event is looking for 20-30 volunteers of all experience levels to assist with setup, lunch service, game/activity helping, and clean-up[cite: 1].
